With school in full swing, your child has settled in, and is building relationships with their teachers. Have you ever wondered what teachers are really looking for or trying to draw out in their students?
I was recently at our son’s college, Hobart William Smith, a phenomenal liberal arts school. The President of the college was sharing an interesting survey from their faculty and staff. One of the questions posed to this esteemed group of educators was, “What qualities do you want to see in our students that allow them to thrive and that makes them great additions to the campus?” Please see the word cloud created from their responses. Yes this is at the college level but truly spot-on for any age!
Hands down, every educator I have had the privilege of working with does not necessarily seek perfection in their students. But instead and more importantly they encourage a solid, consistent work effort. Does the student care and are they motivated? Are they willing to give the extra effort and will they persist? Students thriving at all levels, isn’t that what we all hope for?
