If I could write each of my son’s teachers (he’s in college so that would be a bit weird!) here is a sample of what I would share….
To Our Child’s New Teacher(s),
First, thank you in advance for the learning experience you will create for my child (no matter what his age). I hope your summer had lots of time for relaxation, room to explore and special down time with friends and family. As the new school year begins, a few of my hopes and dreams are shared below:
*Create a learning environment that is caring, respectful, inclusive and thoughtful.
*Please take the time to get to know my son intellectually, emotionally and socially.
*Help him see and understand the value and importance of a strong work effort.
*See the whole student and the student he will hopefully become with your guidance and mentorship.
*Help to expand and strengthen his student views and global perspective.
*Teach him how to further cooperate with others, persist and excel.
*Try to assess his understanding and his skill level in a number of ways.
*Create high standards and expectations but make them age-appropriate with room to fail and to learn from his mistakes.
*Have some fun with time for laughter every single day.
*Try to create a positive relationship with my son.
*Teach with your strength, understanding and patience.
Please know I am here to partner with you respectfully and on the sidelines, you are the professional. I’ll believe half of what I hear, if you will believe half of what you hear! (A very experienced teacher told me that once!) More than anything, I hope you will have a great, rewarding school year and so will my son. As an educator, you make a difference every day you walk in the classroom and teach well.
Sincerely,
Laine
