Our oldest daughter and her husband are wonderful parents to a one year old little boy. And I will admit it, I am totally smitten and loving every minute of being a grandmother. You have such a different perspective; and let’s face it, many more years of adulthood/motherhood behind you to realize how precious these little creatures are! I was in survival mode for many years while our kids were young. But I do remember recognizing that kids both at home, in the classroom and especially on the playground need to make their own fun. Seeing a child play make-believe or build a castle out of sticks or be totally absorbed by a newly formed puddle is the best. My daughter reminded me of this when she shared an article from “Motherly” by author Amy Webb. Please click on the link below to read the article and see what you think.
Boredom: The Best Gift I Ever Gave My Children
I can still hear one of our kids forgetting who they were talking to and telling me they “were bored!” They quickly heard my philosophy on boredom and ran for the hills! And this doesn’t only apply to young children. Teens and young adults also reap huge rewards from having some “down time” to just let their mind wander and to disconnect from it all. It is harder and harder for them in this age of social media but they need it even if they don’t want to admit it.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of time for family and friends.
I am thankful to all for your support and sharing great reads!
Happy Thanksgiving!
