Finding ways to start and complete the more difficult tasks in our day-to-day worlds can be a struggle. Whether you are a student, a parent, or plugging away in your chosen work world, we all procrastinate. I can think of a million things I would rather do then say for example pay bills! But I read a great article by Ken Downer on creating positive habits. Please see the link below for the article.

It’s interesting for at the same time I had a chance to read the latest article by Angela Duckworth, who is cofounder and CEO of Character Lab and a psychology professor at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a favorite educator of mine and an expert, in my opinion, on character development. Her point in the article was to take charge of what distracts you to build your focus. For example, you might need to put your cell phone in your backpack or turn your back to your computer when reading or working on a creative task to be most productive. Duckworth shares, “Situations are objective, but human attention is selective.” Isn’t that the truth! Our grandson can be totally engaged in one of his favorite books making sure you do not miss a page while at other times he is in perpetual motion – alas being two! As an adult, I find I can be reading and all of sudden realize I am thinking about an email I need to write or a call to be made and I have lost total track of the content in front of me. If you would like to read more by Angela Duckworth and her team at Character Lab, you can sign up to receive her Tip of the Week about the science of character at http://www.characterlab.org
Have a great week and Happy Valentine’s Day to all!
